CBTU (UK) is a membership organisation that works within the framework of the trade union movement to provide a voice and vehicle for greater black and minority participation, to organise unorganised workers, actively support community groups working to improve living and working conditions in the black community and increase effective political alliances between workers and the general community.
The basic objectives of the CBTU are to:
Pursue economic justice, employment opportunities and rights at work for black workers';
- Organise and mobilise black workers, develop and support a new generation of black trade union activists and renew our traditions of progressive black politics within the labour movement and beyond;
- Work within the framework of the trade union movement to provide a voice and vehicle for greater black and minority participation;
- Organise unorganized workers;
- Actively support community groups working to improve living and working conditions in the black community; and
- Build effective political alliances between workers and the wider community.
